Thomas' family owns the Tattler newspaper, which he works at. Because of this, he is described as having ink stains on his fingers and hands.

In the Maelstrom, Thomas had been dating Julie for over a year, and they were engaged to be married. Julie's parents were not happy because they believed nineteen to be too young for marriage, but Julie thought they were just happy she was no longer dating Max. Julie later says that Thomas is a better match for her because he is steady and constant. It is assumed that Julie and Thomas later marry.
